Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has hosted the members of the Super Eagles squad to a send-forth dinner ahead of the forthcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The governor hosted the players and staff of the team in Lagos on Tuesday evening, following their arrival from a one-training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In a post on X, Sanwo-Olu charged the team to “make Nigeria proud and bring the cup home”.

The governor said the Eagles “carry the hopes of a nation on your shoulders” and urged them to play “with passion, unity, and determination”.

“My prayers are with our team for strength, resilience and unity on this journey. To the Super Eagles: You carry the hopes of a nation on your shoulders. As you represent us at the AFCON 2023 , may you play with passion, unity, and determination. Make Nigeria proud and bring the cup home.”

The national team is billed to depart the country on Wednesday morning ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on Saturday.
