Banners promoting Seyi Makinde, Oyo governor, for the 2027 presidency have appeared at the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention in Ibadan.
Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, has become the focal point for the PDP’s 2025 elective national convention, with extensive banners welcoming delegates and stakeholders.
When TheCable visited the Adamasingba Stadium in Ibadan on Friday, campaign materials bearing Makinde’s image were displayed across the entrance to the facility.
The main opposition party’s national convention is scheduled for November 15 and 16.

One banner, mounted by a group named Lana Fun Seyi, carried the inscription: “Seyi Makinde for President”, alongside the image of the Oyo governor.
Another banner read “Relax, Seyi Makinde will fix Nigeria 2027”, and was signed by Fapetu Stephen, a PDP member from Ido LGA in Oyo state.
There have been insinuations that the Oyo governor plans to run for president in 2027.

In 2024, Makinde said he would declare his presidential ambition when he is ready.
The governor said speculations about his political future are unnecessary and unsolicited, noting that he does not need permission to speak for himself.
Several other posters featured Kabiru Turaki, ex-minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs, who is seeking the position of national chairman, and Taofeek Arapaja, former deputy national chairman of the PDP, who is seeking the position of national secretary.
The banners formed part of a broader display by various support groups and state chapters of the party ahead of the two-day convention.

The national convention is expected to produce a new set of officers for the PDP national working committee (NWC).
There have been conflicting judgments regarding the PDP’s 2025 elective national convention.
Last week, an Oyo high court ordered the party and its acting national chairman, Umar Damagum, to continue with preparations for the convention.
Some days later, a high court in Abuja halted the PDP from conducting the event and also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) not to supervise or recognise the convention.

On Thursday, a group within the party, led by Sam Anyanwu, announced that the convention had been postponed — a claim quickly refuted by the Damagum-led faction of the PDP.
