Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Kaduna state for a condolence visit, following the recent bombing of Tundun Biri community.

Shettima arrived at the Nigeria Air Force (NAF) base on Thursday.

The vice-president was accompanied by Abbas Tajudeen, speaker of the house of representatives; Mohammed Badaru, minister of defence; and Abdullahi Ganduje, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, was at the NAF base to welcome the vice-president and his entourage.

On Sunday, many residents were killed with scores injured after air strikes were launched on Tundun Biri community, Igabi LGA, Kaduna.

The villagers were reportedly commemorating the birth of Prophet Mohammad when the jet dropped the bomb that led to the deaths of several persons.

The Nigerian Army has accepted responsibility for the incident, stating that its troops were on a routine mission against terrorists when the “mistake” occurred.

Some reports have put the death toll from the incident at over 120.

Sunday’s incident added to the growing list of accidental bombings by the Nigerian military.

Since 2017, over 300 civilians have been reportedly killed in at least 10 cases of inadvertent air strikes carried out by NAF personnel hounding insurgents.
