Vice-President Kashim Shettima on Wednesday visited Plateau state to condole the victims of the recent killings in 17 communities by suspected gunmen.

The vice-president was at Bokkos, one of the LGAs in the state where the attacks took place.

Shettima who represented President Bola Tinubu, in a Facebook post, said the government is committed to addressing the crisis in the state.

Bokkos, Barkin-Ladi, and parts of Mangu LGA were invaded by gunmen who killed over 100 and displaced many residents.

The incident occurred on Sunday when residents were preparing for Christmas celebrations.

Over 200 houses were destroyed by the gunmen who also caused many to suffer injuries as a result of the attack.

The vice-president assured the victims that killings in the state must stop, adding that Tinubu would not relent in ensuring the affected communities “get justice and residents are safe”.

“Earlier today, I visited Plateau State to condole with the government and people over the recent attacks on communities in Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas of the state,” he said.

“I conveyed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s condolences, and the resolve of his administration to address the crisis in the state.

“Indeed, the Tinubu administration will not rest on its oars until victims of the gruesome attacks on communities in Barkin Ladi and Bokkos local government areas of Plateau state get justice and the residents are safe.

“I made a vow that the killings on the Plateau and other parts of the country must stop.

“When one community bleeds, the entire nation feels the pain. The pain we feel now transcends ethnicity or religion, geography or politics. The grief that binds us is a testament to our shared humanity, not differences.”
