Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, hosted an Eid-al-Adha dinner in honour of President Bola Tinubu on Thursday.

The event held at the Lagos state government house in Marina.

The president attended the ceremony after a courtesy visit to Oba Sikiru Adetona, paramount ruler of Ijebuland and Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, Alake of Egbaland, in Ogun state.

Present at the Lagos ceremony were all the past governors of the nation’s commercial capital since 1999, including Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode.

Tinubu served as governor of Lagos from 1999 to 2007, before handing over to Fashola who governed from 2007 to 2015.

Ambode was on the saddle for four years before he was replaced by Sanwo-Olu in 2019.

Since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999, Ambode is the first governor of Lagos to serve just one term.

In the build-up to the 2019 gubernatorial election, Ambode reportedly fell out with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos.

The development led Tinubu to endorse Sanwo-Olu as his replacement, thereby depriving Ambode of another four years in office.

Ambode spoke against the governorship ambition of Sanwo-Olu ahead of the APC primary election in Lagos.

Ambode lost the primary election and went underground in the Lagos political scene for a while.
