PHOTOS: Tinubu unveils armed forces remembrance emblem

President Bola Tinubu has launched the emblem and appeal fund for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The ceremony, held on Tuesday at the council chamber of the State House, Abuja, also featured a closed-door meeting with top military and security leaders.

Speaking during the event, Tinubu praised the armed forces for their “exceptional courage, discipline, and resilience” in confronting ongoing threats.

“Their courage is the foundation of our freedom and unity. Today we also pay tribute to veterans and our serving troops who continue to confront terrorism, insurgency, banditry and other security challenges,” the president said.

“We are resilient often in the face of grave danger, remains the source of National pride, as must honour the fallen, and all those who answer the call of duty.”

He said the federal government is committed to bolstering military welfare, including new programmes to reclaim ungoverned spaces.

Those in attendance include Olufemi Oluyede, chief of defence staff (CDS); Wahidi Shaibu, chief of army staff; Sunday Aneke, chief of air staff; Kayode Egbetokun, inspector-general of police (IGP); Adeola Ajayi, director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Mohammed Mohammed, director-general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA)

After the event, Tinubu held a private session with the service chiefs, though the details of the meeting were not made public.
