Olumode Adeyemi has been sworn in as the controller-general (CG) of the Federal Fire Service (FFS).

Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, minister of interior, decorated Adeyemi with his new rank as the CG in Abuja on Thursday.

President Bola Tinubu approved Adeyemi’s appointment on July 30.

His appointment followed the imminent retirement of Abdulganiyu Jaji, then-CG of the service, whose tenure ended on Wednesday.

At the time, Adeyemi was serving as deputy controller-general, a role he assumed in August 2024.

In a statement announcing his promotion to CG, Abdulmalik Jubril, secretary to the civil defence, correctional, fire and immigration services board (CDCFIB), said Adeyemi was qualified for the position, having completed all the mandatory in-service trainings and command courses both in Nigeria and abroad.

Speaking during the decoration ceremony, Adeyemi thanked President Tinubu for the trust to lead the fire service.

“Your leadership has provided the enabling environment for growth, reform, and operational excellence. I assure you of my full cooperation and dedication as we work together to achieve the goals set before us,” he said of the minister.

“I stand here today with a renewed determination to work with all stakeholders to transform the Federal Fire Service into a model of efficiency, discipline, and public trust.”

He extended gratitude to all personnel for their dedication and sacrifices, and called for their continued support in building a stronger fire service.
