Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, alongside four other Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, over the weekend, attended the campaign flag-off for the Benue chapter of the party.
The governors, who are among party stakeholders that have been absent from campaign activities for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, were in Benue to show support for Samuel Ortom, governor of the state.
The party is currently in crisis over the call for Iyorchia Ayu to step down as PDP national chairman, on the grounds that the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman cannot be from the same region.
But Ayu has insisted that he will not resign from his position.
Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu were governors who were present with Ortom at the Benue PDP campaign flag-off.
