Jesse Otegbayo, chief medical director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, says the institution has received report of a planned attack on its facilities.
Otegbayo, in a statement issued by Toye Akinrinlola, UCH head of information, said efforts had been made to beef up security at the premises.
The CMD said he contacted Seyi Makinde, governor of Oyo, on Sunday morning to brief him on the development, adding that he had been assured that there would be adequate security measures to protect UCH and other health institutions in the state.
“Our attention has been drawn to the plans by suspected hoodlums to attack the University College Hospital, Ibadan. This is also as the federal ministry of health has alerted all teaching hospitals, federal medical centres, specialist hospitals and other tertiary hospitals in Nigeria of the plans to attack them,” the statement read.
“Consequently, the ministers in the ministry have directed all CMDs and MDs to beef up security around their facilities. We at UCH have taken bold steps to ensure the safety of lives and property within the hospital.”
Otegbayo added that he had also called on the heads of all security agencies in the state to provide security support to UCH, and they have all responded.
He assured staff, students and patients in the hospital that their lives and properties are safe.
