The Abia government has dispatched a team to the University of Jos (UNIJOS) to evacuate students of Abia origin who are stranded in Plateau following the closure of the school.

The management of the university had suspended academic activities over the rising insecurity in the state.

On August 14, 22 travellers were killed along Rukuba road in Jos North LGA of Plateau.

Also, on Tuesday, five people were killed at Chando-Zrrechi village in Bassa LGA of the state.

According to John Kalu, Abia commissioner of information, the evacuation team is led by Chibuzo Ndom, the special assistant to the governor on students affairs.

“The contingent from Abia which includes security personnel are expected to ensure the safe return of the over 200 students of Abia origin back to the state capital, Umuahia, where the evacuees will be welcomed by the Governor,” Kalu said.

TheCable had reported that survivors of the initial attack were returned to Ondo state last Friday by the Plateau government.
