Plateau PDP chairman abducted — 48 hours before convention

Damishi Sango, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state, has been abducted.

Sango, a former sports minister, was kidnapped alongside his son, police orderly, driver and Emmanuel Makni, a former factional chairman of the PDP in Plateau.

The Kaduna state police command confirmed the incident, saying it took place along Kagarko-Jere road in Kaduna.

Aliyu Mukhtar, spokesman of the command, told TheCable that the police received a distress call around 6pm on Wednesday.

He said the special anti-kidnapping team and the special tactical team had been despatch to rescue them.

“The inspector-general of police’s (IGP’s) anti-kidnapping team and the special tactical squad has swung into action to rescue the victims and arrest the hoodlums,” he said.

The incident occurred two days before the national convention of the opposition party.

He was reportedly on his way to Abuja in preparation for the party’s convention, slated for Saturday, when the kidnappers struck.

John Akans, spokesman of the PDP in Plateau, said no contact had been established with the abductors.
