Plateau United on Sunday extended their lead at the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) by five points.

The Jos-based team secured a 2-0 victory against Niger Tornadoes in one of the week 9 matches played.

Plateau United took the lead in the injury time of the first-half through Kabiru Umar, who capitalised on an assist from Saleh Hamisu.

Six minutes into the second half, Philip Azango sent the goalkeeper the wrong way with a well-timed shot to seal the victory.

El-Kanemi Warriors secured the only away victory of the weekend when they beat Abia Warriors 1-0 in Umuahia.

The remaining four matches played on Sunday ended in a stalemate.

Newly appointed Remo Stars coach, Fatai Osho, started his reign with a draw against Lobi Stars in Sagamu.

Victor Mbaoma gave Remo Stars the lead in the 14th minute of the game while Tony Okpotu equalised for the visitors at the start of the second half to end the game 1-1.

In Katsina, Shooting Stars secured a valuable away point when they forced home team, Katsina United, to a 1-1 draw while Akwa United played out a goalless draw against Gombe United.

It was another 1-1 draw in Lafia, between Nasarawa United and Sunshine Stars.

Olayinka Onaolapo scored for the home team in the 48th minute while Sunday Oluwadare restored parity with a free-kick in the 61st minute.

Goalkeeper Olorunleke Ojo also saved a penalty for the visitors in the second half.
