Vincent Temitope
Plateau United says Vincent Temitope, the club’s striker, was stabbed in the neck by an angry fan following a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) game at the Lafia City stadium in Nasarawa.
In a chat with TheCable, Yaksat Maklek, the club’s director of media operations, said the attack happened after Plateau United’s 3-2 away loss to Nasarawa United on Sunday.
He said some fans approached Temitope, one of the goal-scorers, after the match for photos. Once they were close to him, one of the fans struck the striker in the neck.
Maklek added that witnesses claimed the assailant “held a knife”.

“After the game, a couple of fans went close to him pretending they wanted to take some snapshots and one of them struck him in the neck,” he told TheCable.
“They say he actually held a knife and struck him in the neck. You would imagine how worst it would have been if he did [the player] did not escape that particular attack.”
Maklek said the player was rushed to Federal University Teaching Hospital in Lafia, where he was treated and in “stable condition.”

He added that the club has compiled all the necessary evidence of the incident and will present it to the NPFL for appropriate action.
Vincent Temitope joined Plateau United last year and was named in the Super Eagles B training squad ahead of the forthcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN) later this year.
