Michel Platini, UEFA president, has lost his appeal afainst his 90-day provisional ban from footballing activities, hence he cannot run for FIFA presidency.

According to BBC, Platini’s request was denied by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), which means the Frenchman will not be allowed to attend the Euro 2016 finals draw in Paris on Saturday, BBC is reporting.

The 90-day ban also prevents Platini from participating in the February 26, 2016 presidential election.

Following the investigation of corruption claims, Platini was suspended alongside FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, who has been named in numerous allegations of graft.

Platini and Blatter have denied any involvement in the £1.35m payment alleged to have been made in 2011 for work Platini did as Blatter’s adviser.

Both men will have personal hearings with FIFA’s ethics committee next week, with a verdict being expected on Monday, 21 December.

FIFA ethics investigators, who placed Platini on the 90-day suspension, have also recommended a life ban for the 60-year-old.

Blatter, on the other hand, earlier announced that he will stand down from his post, conducting an “emergency” election, which is expected to lead to reforms at the world governing body.

Platini, who has registered his interest in Blatter’s job, was initially tipped as favourites, but the buildup to the suspension may have changed his fortunes.
