Peace Mass Transit (PMT) has collaborated with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to retrain its drivers on improved high safety.

The one-month training, which started on Tuesday, will include all drivers with the transport company.

FRSC officials coordinated the main sessions for participants while Sunday Igwegbe, PMT’s safety manager, took the drivers through the other routines.

During the training, all drivers are expected to check in batches and be taken through regular and specialist routines, as a form of recertification.

Igwegbe is expected to ensure that the drivers have valid driving licences while
FRSC officers would take them through safety routines like fire emergency reactions, highway codes, and general road safety procedures.

Commenting on the initiative, Igwegbe expressed satisfaction with drivers’ response to the current session.

He assured that the company will not lower its high safety standards to accommodate any recalcitrant driver.

“We have no tolerance for carelessness because human lives are involved”, he stated. We retrain them regularly because, over time, there might be the temptation for some to try to take things of safety for granted,” he said.

“But we don’t allow that, so, despite the logistics implications, we do these trainings regularly”.
