Nwoba Chika Nwoba, Ebonyi publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has been arraigned before a magistrate court in Abakaliki for allegedly publishing false information on social media.

According to the prosecution, he (Nwoba) allegedly spread fake news, including “false information” against Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi.

He was also accused of using his Facebook page to publish materials capable of disturbing public peace.

The offence, according to the charges against him, is punishable under section 4 of the state’s Cybercrimes Prohibition Law No. 012 of 2021.

Nwoba was arrested earlier in January by the Ebube Agu security network and handed to the police for prosecution.

The arrest was said to have sparked off outcry by his party.

Although he was supposed to be arraigned weeks ago, he slumped on arrival in court on January 12.

Consequently, the court ordered that he should be taken to a medical facility for attention after which he will face the charges preferred against him.

At the court session on Wednesday, he was arraigned on a 15-count charge before Blessing Chukwu, a magistrate, who ordered his remand.

Nwoba, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
