Police arrest 14 suspects, seize illicit drugs in Borno raid

The Borno police command says 14 suspects have been arrested during a night-time security operation in Maiduguri targeting drugs and social vices.

A statement on Tuesday by Nahum Daso, Borno police spokesperson, said the raid was conducted by the rapid response squad (RRS), the social vices unit of the force.

Daso said the operation, led by Yusuf Lawal, Borno police commissioner, took place on May 10 in various locations within the state capital.

The spokesperson added that the action was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of drug abuse and other criminal threats.

“Following a joint raid operation conducted simultaneously on May 10, 2025, at about 2130HRS, by the RRS-Social Vices Unit within Maiduguri metropolis, 14 suspects were apprehended and a large cache of exhibits was recovered,” the statement reads.

“Suspects arrested include: Tijjani Umar, Bala Musa, Mustapha Lawan, Abba Anas, Kashim Modu, Ahmadu Sani, Abdullah I. Mohammed, Kabiru Zakariya, Umar Abubakar, Ayuba Mohammed, Abba Mohammed, Bawa Manchiri, Usman Abubakar, and Ijai Anthony.

“Exhibits recovered include: 187 Exzol tablets, 252 D5 tablets, 507 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, one jackknife, and one tramadol tablet.”

The command warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful acts or face the full wrath of the law.

Daso asked the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to security authorities.
