Police arrest 16 suspects for vandalism in Katsina, recover cables, shovels

The Katsina police command says its operatives arrested 16 suspects for vandalising government installations in the state.

Gambo Isah, Katsina police spokesperson, in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspects were nabbed at Kofar Kaura area of the state.

“On 01/12/2021 at about 2000hrs, based on credible information, the command succeeded in arresting sixteen (16) suspected vandals of Government property in Katsina Metropolis,” the statement reads.

“Suspects were arrested at Kofar Kaura area vandalising Government installations at the newly approved site for the construction of the underpass costing millions of naira.

“All of various addresses, upon instant search, two shovels, one digger and some quantity of cable wires were recovered from them. Investigation is ongoing.”

In another development, the police said its operatives arrested one Yusuf Abdullahi, an alleged member of a bandit group suspected to have killed Abu Atiku, district head of Yantumaki area.

Atiku was killed alongside Gambo Chakau, his security guard, in May 2020.

The police spokesperson said the suspect confessed to the crime and named four other persons as his accomplices.
