The Bauchi police command says it has arrested one Manu Dushi, an 18-year old suspected armed kidnapper in Alkaleri LGA of the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ahmed Wakil, Bauchi police public relations officer (PPRO), said the suspect was working with six others who are now on the run.

Wakin said in December 2020, the suspects had conspired and raided Jamaare-Kazaure village in Alkaleri LGA, and kidnapped one Yau Sambo, a resident of Bangaji village, and detained him at an area near the border of Bauchi and Taraba states.

According to the police PRO, Sambo escaped from the custody of the captives, and informed the police of the injury sustained by one of the bandits.

“The nominal complainant revealed to the police that one of his captors had, during the operation, stepped on a stalk of shrub called ‘tafasa’, which brutally pierced and injured his leg,” the PPRO said.

“Acting on this tip, the following day at about 134o hours, the suspect was arrested treating himself at the primary health centre in Mansur, with an injury matching the description of the complainant. The suspect was further identified by his physique and intonation.”

The police spokesperson said the case has been transferred to the state criminal investigations department (SCID) for further investigation.
