Police arrest 22-year-old man for ‘rape, armed robbery’ in Ondo
The police command in Ondo has arrested a man for alleged rape and armed robbery at the Bolorunduro area in Ondo east council of the state.
Funmilayo Odunlami, spokesperson of the command, said one cut-to-size gun with bullets, six mobile phones, a POS machine and a motorcycle were recovered from the suspect.
Odunlami said the suspect, Johnson Joseph (22), pretended to be a good Samaritan to a victim who was stranded, but later robbed her of N102,000, phone and also raped her at gunpoint in the isolated area.
Odunlami said Joseph was arrested by operatives of the police on routine patrol, adding that during interrogation, he confessed to having robbed many people of their belongings in the past.
The police later contacted four of his victims through phones recovered from the suspect.
Odunlami said the suspect would be charged after investigation.
In August, the police arrested a 47-year-old man identified as Godson James, for allegedly killing a police officer along Ifon-Benin road, in Ose LGA of Ondo.
James had allegedly run over the officer along Ifon-Benin road, while fleeing from his business partners.
