The Kaduna police command says it has arrested a 59-year-old man who allegedly impersonated governors and other high-ranking government officials.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mansir Hassan, spokesperson of the command, identified the suspect as Aminu Ardo Yarima from Bichi LGA in Kano state.

Hassan said Yarima was arrested on July 19 at his residence in Keffi, Nasarawa state, following credible intelligence and weeks of surveillance.

“Upon arrest, the suspect confessed to having impersonated several high-profile personalities, including the governors of Kaduna, Nasarawa, and Kogi states,” the statement reads.

“Others include the chairmen of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS); the wife of the late chief of staff, Abba Kyari; the wife of the Kogi state governor; the inspector-general of police; and the force public relations officer.”

The police spokesperson said a search conducted at Yarima’s residence led to the recovery of five mobile phones, 23 SIM cards, several diaries, and jotters.

He added that one of the diaries contained contact details of chiefs of staff to the governors of all 36 states, alongside numbers of senior federal and state government officials and traditional rulers.
