The Nigeria Police Force, federal capital territory (FCT) command, has arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of Sadiq, son of Kabiru Gaya, senator representing Kano south.

Sadiq died on Tuesday and the circumstances that led to his death are not clear.

Confirming the incident to Punch, Josephine Adeh, FCT police spokesperson, said investigations are ongoing and that five suspects were in police custody.

“Five suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder, and investigation is ongoing,” she said.

“The outcome of the investigation will be communicated subsequently.”

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had earlier condoled with the senator over the incident.

The older Gaya was the director-general of the Osinbajo support groups when the vice-president was seeking the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“This is a very, very sad visit. Sadiq was a young man. He was like a son to me,” Osinbajo had said.

“I feel a very personal loss. I commiserate with and condole the distinguished senator and all members of his family, the government and the people of Kano State who have lost a very precious son in this young man.”

Meanwhile, the younger Gaya was a staff member of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

He was a graduate of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and the University of Wales, United Kingdom.
