Police arrest man for ‘attacking’ 65-year-old man with ‘hammer’ in Lagos

The police command in Lagos says its operatives have arrested one Sodiq Ishola for allegedly using a hammer to injure a 65-year-old man on his head.

The police said the suspect was arrested on Monday in the Iyana Ipaja area of Lagos by men of the rapid response squad (RRS).

In a statement published via X on Tuesday, the police command said the suspect trailed the victim and his wife from Lagos Island to Iyana Ipaja with a motorcycle.

“Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the suspect and one accomplice trailed the victim and his wife from Lagos Island on a bike to Iyana Ipaja before Ishola descended on him,” the statement reads.

“He had inflicted severe injuries to the head of his victim before RRS operatives on patrol arrested him.

“The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment, while the suspect was transferred to RRS headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.”

The statement said Olayinka Egbeyemi, RRS commander, has ordered that the suspect be transferred to the state criminal investigations department (SCID) for further investigations.
