The Enugu police command says it has arrested a native doctor for alleged possession of firearms and ammunition, in Ugwuochie-Iwollo, Ezeagu LGA of the state.
In a statement on Monday, Daniel Ndukwe, the police spokesperson in the state, said the operatives recovered one locally-made pistol, revolver pistol, expended live 38 special calibre ammunition, and a live cartridge from the native doctor’s shrine.
Ndukwe said the suspect was apprehended by personnel of the special anti-cultism squad (SPACS) of the command.
He added that the native doctor, who will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation, confessed to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity.

Mamman Giwa, commissioner of police in the state, commended the operatives for their efforts and urged them to ensure that “Enugu remains uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals”.
Giwa also urged the public to remain supportive of the command’s efforts in eradicating insecurity in the state.
“The recovery followed the suspect’s confessional statements after his earlier arrest, as well as a subsequent raid on the shrine by the operatives,” the statement reads.
