Police operatives in Anambra have arrested two suspects over the killing of a 17-year-old boy in the Onitsha main market area of the state.
In a statement, Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson of the state’s police command, said the suspects were security operatives who opened fire indiscriminately while attempting to arrest a suspect.
He said the officers were apprehended with the help of traders in the area.
“Regrettably, they shot an innocent 17-year-old boy to death,” Ikenga said.

He added that Ikoiye Orutugu, the state commissioner of police, has condemned the “avoidable and unprofessional” use of firearms by the suspects.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikoiye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, while frowning at such avoidable and unprofessional behaviour of the security operatives, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka, for a comprehensive investigation,” he said.
Ikenga said the police command is committed to ensuring that justice is served.
