The police in Anambra say they have arrested a sergeant allegedly supplying arms and ammunition to cultists in the state.

NAN quoted the Anambra police command as saying this in a statement in reaction to a viral social media post.

The officer, seen in the viral post, was said to be arming a cult group that has been accused of some killings in the state.

In a statement on Monday, Toochukwu Ikenga, the command’s public relations officer, said the sergeant — who was not named — has been arrested.

“The attention of the police command in Anambra has been drawn to a story trending on the social media, alleging the involvement of a police sergeant in the illegal supply of arms and ammunition to a criminal gang in Awka,” Ikenga said.

“The alleged police sergeant has been identified and is already in custody for questioning.

“The command assures that the outcome of investigations into the case will be made public and reiterates its commitment to being accountable to all personnel serving in the command.”
