The Kano police command says it has arrested two suspects who supply petroleum products to bandits in Katsina state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Abdullahi Kiyawa, Kano police spokesman, said the suspects were apprehended in two J5 vehicles around Fagge area of the state.

Kiyawa said they were nabbed with five fully loaded 25-litre jerrycans of petrol while heading towards Jibiya LGA of Katsina.

He said the suspects confessed that they supply fuel to “unknown customers” who regularly purchase the product at a higher price in Jibiya.

“On the 15/10/2021, at about 1230 hours, a team of Policemen led by CSP Abubakar Hamma while on intelligence patrol at Fagge LGA, Kano State intercepted two (2) J5 Motor Vehicles loaded with Food Stuffs,” the statement reads.

“On stop and search, five (5) Jerry cans of 25 liters each filled with PMS put in an empty sack, disguised as bags of sugar, were recovered from one of the vehicles. Two suspects were arrested; one Musbahu Rabi’u, 31 years old, of Jibia LGA, Katsina State, and the driver of the J5 Motor vehicle, one Jamilu Abdullahi, 37 years old of Jibiya, Katsina State.”

The police spokesman said an investigation has been launched to gather more information and that the suspects would be charged to the court thereafter.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Mr Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko also urged the good people of the State to be watchful of their immediate environment and report any suspicion to the nearest Police Station,” Kiyawa added.

He said the CP warned owners of filling stations in Kano to desist from selling petrol to unknown buyers in large quantities, adding that suspicious buyers should also be reported to the police.
