The Lagos police command says it has arrested two suspects over the murder of a young lady in the Mile 12 area of the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Benjamin Hundeyin, police spokesperson in Lagos, said the deceased, who is a native of Nasarawa state, was killed on May 24.

Hundeyin said the deceased’s boyfriend, who is currently at large, conspired with other suspects to attack, kill, and set her body ablaze after his attempt to forcefully rekindle their relationship failed.

“The Lagos state police command has arrested two principal suspects who participated in the dastardly act wherein a young lady who hailed from Nasarawa state (name withheld) was tragically murdered in cold blood and her body set ablaze on May 24, 2025, in the slum ‘GANGARE’ by the canal behind Mile 12 Market area of Lagos State,” the statement reads.

“Contrary to speculations circulating and other misinformation about the cause of the murder of the deceased, it was found out that the deceased was residing in the slum with her northern relatives, and her exact profession remains unidentified at this time.”

The police spokesperson, who condemned the act, noted that there was no element of blasphemy by the deceased before her murder.

Hundeyin added that there is also no threat of reprisal attack between any ethnic group against the other following the incident.

He urged the public to go about their daily businesses, as normalcy has been fully restored in the affected area.

“The killing of the young lady in cold blood is clearly a premeditated crime of conspiracy and cold blooded murder, which should be condemned by all. There was no element of blasphemy by the victim before her gruesome murder,” Hundeyin said.

“Two (2) suspects directly connected to the incident are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where they are assisting the Police detectives and investigators in efforts to arrest other perpetrators involved in the murder of the young lady.”
