The Borno police command says the use of tinted glasses for vehicles has been banned in the state.

In a statement on Monday, Kamiludeen Sani, Borno police spokesperson, said the use of covered number plates is also barred in the state.

Sani said the command has observed that vehicle owners use tinted vehicle glasses, covered number plates and spy number plates indiscriminately.

He said the police also noticed that sirens are being blared by unauthorised persons in the state.

The spokesperson warned residents against engaging in such acts, adding that unlawful activities will not be tolerated.

“Violators of the law against the use of the items are warned to desist as the police would not allow unpatriotic individuals to violate the law by their acts of lawlessness,” NAN quoted Sani as saying.

“All heads of departments, area commanders, divisional police officers and tactical commanders have been directed to heighten the level of vigilance in their respective areas of responsibility.

“They have also been directed to collaborate with other security agencies to share information and intelligence reports and to ensure a coordinated effort in enforcing the ban and addressing any emerging threats.”

In 2021, Usman Baba, former inspector-general of police, directed the suspension of issuance of permits for tinted glasses and SPY number plates for vehicles across the country.

Baba later exempted cars with factory-fitted glasses from the ban.
