An autopsy carried out on the remains of Oyeleke Jumoke, a lady killed during the  ‘Yoruba nation’ protest in Lagos, shows she died from “missile injury”.

This is contrary to police claims that she may have died from stab wounds.

Jumoke, a 25-year-old sales lady was found dead after police fired shots to disperse agitators demanding an independent state for the south-west region on July 3.

She was said to have been killed by a stray bullet.

The police, however, said it did not use live bullets, denying any involvement in Jumoke’s death.

Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesman of the state police command, also claimed that Jumoke’s corpse was old and that it was unlikely she died on the said day.

He also said an examination of the body revealed stab wounds as the likely cause of her death.

He described the report as a “calculated attempt to create confusion and fear” in the minds of Lagosians and other Nigerians.

But an autopsy report carried out at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on Monday showed that Jumoke died from “hemopericardium, disruption to the heart and lungs and missile injury to the chest”.

TheCable had reported how the police shot into the air and fired teargas to disperse the agitators.

The police also unleashed water cannon on the protesters and arrested a number of the agitators.
