The Police Service Commission (PSC) has asked the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to help fish out drug users among new recruits during the screening exercise.
Hashimu Argungu, the PSC chairman, spoke during a visit to the NDLEA corporate headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday.
Argungu met with Buba Marwa, NDLEA chairman, and other members of the agency’s management team.
The PSC chairman appealed to the anti-drug agency to join the commission in all the processes of screening prospective police officers.

Argungu said it is dangerous to give firearms to drug addicts, adding that PSC is committed to removing such officers from the force.
“We want you to assist us to fish out the drug addicts who obviously should not be allowed to get into and corrupt the system. We want to get it right and get the police to work,” Argungu was quoted in a statement by Ani Ikechukwu, the PSC spokesperson.
The PSC chairman commended NDLEA for the assistance in screening intakes of the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano state.

On his part, Marwa said the agency will assist PSC to sanitise police recruitment.
“We will try our best to bring the menace to an end. But it requires intelligence sharing and training,” Marwa said.
