Police declare district head wanted over general’s disappearance

The Plateau state police command has declared the district head of Dura Du in Jos south local government area and seven others wanted in connection with the disappearance of Idris Alkali, a retired major general.

This is coming a week after the Nigerian army handed over 13 suspects to the police for further investigation.

Mathias Tyopev, spokesman of Plateau police command, in a statement on Wednesday, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects masterminded the disappearance of Alkali.

According to the statement, all the suspects are natives of Berom and speak Berom, Hausa and English fluently.

“Preliminary investigations into the case of missing Major General IM Alkali (retired) revealed that the following suspects masterminded the abduction, assault and caused the disappearance of the missing General,” the statement read.

The wanted suspects are Yakubu Rap, district head of Dura-Du; Chuwang Samuel aka Mourinho, a panel beater; Nyam Samuel aka Soft Touch, a panel beater; Mathew Wrang; Pam Gyang Dung aka Boss, a farmer and miner; Chuwang Pwajok aka Tifa, a surveyor and businessman; Timothy Chuan, a Tipper driver and Moses Gyang aka Boss.

The force urged anyone with useful information about the suspects to report to the nearest police station.

Alkali has been missing since September 3.
