A police officer was killed on Thursday when gunmen attacked a patrol team along Ngbo-Effium road in Ohaukwu LGA of Ebonyi.

Joshua Ukandu, the spokesperson of the Ebonyi police command, said the gunmen engaged members of the patrol team in a gun duel.

Ukandu said one officer died during the shootout while another one was wounded.

He said Augustina Ogbodo, the commissioner of police in the state, has deployed tactical teams to the scene of the attack to investigate the issue and bring the gunmen to justice.

“The CP is using this medium to call on well-meaning individuals in the state to avail the Command with useful information that can lead to the arrest of the fleeing hoodlums,’’ he said.
