Police invite Ihedioha, CUPP spokesperson over ‘murder case’

The police command in Imo has invited Emeka Ihedioha, a former governor of the state, and Ikenga Ugochinyere, spokesperson of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), over alleged murder, kidnapping and arson cases.

The police equally invited Gerald Irona, a former deputy governor of the state.

The Imo commissioner of police, in a letter dated March 13 and addressed to Charles Ugwu, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state,  asked Ugwu to produce the three PDP chieftains at the state criminal bureau on Thursday by 10am.

The letter titled: ‘Re: Case of Murder, Kidnapping and Arson’, which was seen by TheCable was signed by Ukachi Opara, the state’s deputy commissioner of police in charge of administration.

“The office of state intelligence bureau, Imo state police command, state headquarters Owerri, is investigating the above underlined case involving some prominent members of Peoples Democratic Parties (PDP) Imo state chapter,” the letter reads.

“The commissioner of police, Imo state command, requests you come along with the following persons: 1. Emeka Ihedioha. 2. Ugochinyere Ikenga Imo, 3. Gerald Irona for interview with the commissioner of police, through the officer in charge of State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) Owerri.”

Henry Okoye, police spokesperson in Imo, confirmed to TheCable that the invitation letter emanated from the command.

In the build-up to the February 25 presidential and national assembly elections, Imo recorded some violent attacks on political personalities.

On January 14, gunmen attacked the residence of Ugochinyere in Umukegwu community, Akokwa, Ideato LGA of Imo State.

On February 11, Charles Oke, PDP ward chairperson in Ogbaku community, was ambushed by gunmen and shot.

On February 4, gunmen set ablaze the country home of Nnaemeka Obiaraeri, a candidate of the Labour Party in the Imo house of assembly.

On January 24, gunmen killed Christian Ihim, an aide of Emma Ibediro, a former national organising secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

On May 9, a magistrate court in Owerri remanded Irona in prison over allegations bordering on felony and treason.
