Police nab ‘one chance’ couple in Abuja, recover vehicle

The federal capital territory (FCT) police command says it has arrested three members of a syndicate, including a couple, involved in “one chance” robberies in Abuja.

“One chance” is a type of robbery in which unsuspecting passengers are lured into commercial vehicles whose occupants are robbers.

In a statement on Thursday, Josephine Adeh, police spokesperson in the FCT, said the suspects confessed to the crimes during interrogation.

Adeh said the the arrests were made between Tuesday and Wednesday and identified the couple as Chukwudi Okorie, a 51-year-old male, and Chibuzor Okorie, a 43-year old female, alongside Esther Gabriel, 38 – all residents of Akaraka village in Gwagwa area of the FCT.

“A blue Mazda car with Reg No. FCT 590 EV, an operational vehicle used by the syndicate to perpetrate their heinous acts was recovered from one of the suspects,” the statement reads.

“While investigation is still ongoing to apprehend other accomplices, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Haruna G. Garba psc, wishes to reiterate his unflinching commitment to ensuring FCT remain a safe and peaceful place for residents to stay without fair from any quarters of the Territory. ”

According to Adeh, Garba also urged the populace to keep up the rendition of distress calls and report suspicious activities through the following emergency lines: 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
