The Bayelsa police command has debunked reports of a killing at the collation centre in Brass LGA of the state.

According to reports, one George Sibo, said to be a member of one of the leading parties in Bayelsa, was killed at the collation center on Sunday.

The deceased was reported to have been an aide to the Brass LGA chairman and an indigene of Twon-Brass.

Reports said he was attacked when thugs invaded the collation centre at the time results for some wards in the constituency were being submitted.

But speaking with TheCable, Asinim Butswat, Bayelsa police spokesperson, debunked the reports, saying there was no killing at the collation centre.

“No one was killed at the collation centre. I am only aware of someone who was mobbed and taken to the hospital. That did not happen anywhere near any collation centre and I don’t know if he’s now dead or alive now,” he said.

“Even if there was any death anywhere, I cannot link it to the election at the moment.”

On Saturday,  the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted off-cycle governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi and Imo states.

There have been allegations of harassment and assault in Bayelsa since the electoral process began.

In a recent statement, INEC said some of its officials were held hostage in Brass LGA of Bayelsa.

The commission said the development was detrimental to credible elections and called on security agencies to immediately facilitate the release of the officials.
