The Nasarawa state police command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the abduction of two pupils from St Peter’s Academy, Rukubi, in Doma LGA.
A video circulating online shows students in uniform and teachers gathered in a rowdy environment outside the school.
The incident, said to have occurred on Friday around 10:00 am, was initially reported as an abduction during sporting activities on the school field.
However, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the state police commissioner, said men of the force and military personnel were swiftly deployed to investigate the situation.

In a statement issued by Ramhan Hansel, the police spokesperson, said upon arrival, security operatives discovered that the pupils had fled in fear after seeing hunters carrying dane guns, mistaking them for kidnappers.
Hansel noted that the school proprietor confirmed to the police that the alarm was false.
The police spokesperson said the command assured the public that the area remains under close surveillance to prevent any security breaches.

“Upon arrival, it was discovered that the pupils had sighted some hunters carrying Dane guns and, out of fear, fled, mistaking them for kidnappers,” he said.
“The area was thoroughly combed, and normalcy was immediately restored. The proprietor of the school was also interviewed and confirmed to the operatives that the alarm raised was a false one.
“The general area continues to be closely monitored to forestall any breach of security. The Command therefore urges members of the public to disregard the circulating report as mere rumour unworthy of publication as factual news.”
He urged the public to disregard the “false reports”, adding that normalcy has since returned to the area.
