The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) have assured Jigawa residents of adequate security during the rerun election in Birninkudu/Buji federal constituency.

On Saturday, voters converged on eight polling units to elect a representative into the green chamber.

Last year, the national assembly petition tribunal declared the election in the constituency inconclusive and ordered a rerun in eight polling units.

INEC had returned Adamu Yakubu of the People Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner, but Magaji Aliyu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenged the outcome at the tribunal.

In a statement on Saturday, Lawan Shiisu, spokesperson of the police in the state, said the command has adopted proactive measures to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free rerun.

He said the command has also deployed adequate personnel for the exercise, adding that about 30 police officers were expected to watch over each of the eight polling units, in collaboration with other security personnel.

Badaruddeen Tijjani, the NSCDC spokesperson, said the command had also deployed adequate personnel in strategic locations in the constituency.

“The deployment of personnel is part of a comprehensive security strategy to mitigate potential challenges and ensure the credibility of the by-election,” he said.

“The commandant appeals to all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates and the public, to collaborate with the deployed security personnel.

“This cooperative effort is vital for fostering an atmosphere of peace and ensuring the credibility of the election.”
