Police officer regains freedom after two nights in kidnappers’ den

An officer attached to the Zone 2 zonal headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Onikan, Lagos state, has been released after two nights in a kidnappers’ den.

According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, Ogun state police command spokesperson, the officer was released on Friday morning.

Oyeyemi said the anti-kidnapping unit of the police carried out the operation that led to his release.

“I am in the best position to tell you the number, just one officer was kidnapped and I can tell you he has been released earlier this morning. The incident happened on Wednesday,” he said.

“We deployed our officers and we were able to get him out unhurt.”

TheCable understands that the released officer was part of a three-man squad sent on an investigative assignment in Ogun state.

The squad was said to have been accosted by kidnappers around the Wasinmi axis of Ewekoro LGA in the state.

When contacted, Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, said the Ogun command is in the best position to speak on the incident.
