Police officers attached to bullion van die in auto crash

Two policemen have died, while others sustained injuries, following an accident which occurred at Eiyekorin area, along the Ilorin-Ogbomoso expressway, on Thursday.

Ajayi Okasanmi, police public relations officer (PPRO) of the Kwara command, confirmed the incident.

He explained that the officers had escorted a bullion van to Ogbomoso, and were on their way back to Kwara, when the accident occurred.

“The police officers were coming back from Ogbomoso where they had escorted a bullion van,” Okasanmi said.

“One of the tyres of the escort vehicle burst and rammed into a trailer parked along the road.

“Two policemen died on the spot and some others were injured. They are being treated at the hospital.”

The police spokesperson added that the corpses of the officers have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH).

According to NAN, Jonathan Owoade, the state sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), also confirmed the accident.

The incident comes about five weeks after three police officers were killed in an accident that occurred along the Abakaliki-Enugu expressway in Ebonyi state.

Ten other officers were also said to have sustained injuries in the accident in Ebonyi.
