Police officers’ wives empower 100 women, PWDs in Bauchi

Elizabeth Egbetokun, wife of the inspector-general of police (IGP) and national president of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), has distributed some materials to about 100 of its members and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Bauchi.

Items distributed include hair salon equipment, deep freezers, food items, wheelchairs for PWDs and others.

The empowerment materials were given to the beneficiaries with the view of making them self-reliant and employers of labour.

The distribution ceremony was done on Tuesday at the parade ground of the Police Training School, Yelwa, Bauchi state.

During the distribution, Egbetokun said the association is committed to providing its members with necessary skills and tools to enable them prosper.

She commended the resilience of the wives of officers who are dead. She described them as “beacon of hope to others”. She urged the women to be firm and unite at all times.

She said twenty women from each LGAs in Bauchi will be sponsored by POWA to attend training on improving agriculture production in the United States.

In a goodwill message, Aisha Bala Mohammed, wife of Bala Mohammed,  the state governor, commended POWA president for her commitment to the welfare of dead officers’ wives. The state governor’s wife was represented by Asma’u Mohammed Auwal, wife of the deputy governor.

The first lady said the empowerment programme initiated by Elizabeth Egbetokun was a reflection of the IGP’s wife interest in promoting the welfare of widows of police officers.

In her welcome address, Binta Auwal Musa, Bauchi state chairperson of POWA, said the association has tried in improving the wellbeing of its members in the state.
