The Anambra police command says its officers have repelled an attack by gunmen along the Eziowelle axis of the state.
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism publication, the armed group injured an officer, carted away two service rifles, but abandoned a stolen SUV during a shootout with the police.
In a statement on Thursday, Ikenga Tochukwu, the command’s public relations officer, said the gunmen were intercepted by the police patrol team in a convoy of three vehicles.
He confirmed that the group engaged officers in a gun duel but no civilian casualty was recorded.

The PRO noted that the state’s commissioner of police has ordered an immediate strengthening of security measures across the state.
“All police divisions, formations, and patrol units have been placed on heightened alert to ensure the safety of residents,” he said.
“Members of the public are urged to remain calm, go about their lawful activities, and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency lines.
