The Zamfara police command says it has rescued ten women and a year-old child abducted in Manye village, Anka LGA of the state. 

Mohammed Shehu, the command’s public relations officer, said this in a statement on Friday.

Shehu said the rescued victims were abducted on October 17 by suspected bandits following an invasion of their village.

According to Shehu, the command secured the release of the victims following an extensive search and rescue operation at the Gando forest in Bukkuyum LGA of the state.

“The Zamfara State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kolo Yusuf psc, has succeeded in the rescue of Ten (10) women and a 1-year-old child, following an extensive/successful search and rescue operations at Gando forest in Bukkuyum LGA of the state,” the statement read.

“On Monday, 17th October 2022, a group of bandits invaded Manye village in Anka LGA and abducted ten women and a 1-year-old child to Gando forest in Bukkuyum LGA of the state where they spent three (3) days in captivity. On receiving the report, the commissioner of police deployed additional police tactical operatives to reinforce DPO Anka and vigilantes in their rescue operation, a task that was successfully accomplished with the full support of stakeholders especially, the sole administrator of Anka LGA.

Shehu said the command is making efforts to apprehend and charge perpetrators to court for prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police, while commending the sole Administrator, Anka LGA, for the full support and partnership during the rescue operation, congratulates the victims for regaining their freedom and assures that all the perpetrators will be apprehended and charged to court for prosecution.”
