Police rescue abducted 3-month-old baby, recover rocket launcher in Zamfara

The Zamfara police command says it has rescued a three-month-old baby that was abducted in Ruggar Tudu village in Bungudu LGA of the state.

Speaking at a media briefing, Ayuba Elkanah, the commissioner of police in the state, said two other abducted persons were rescued.

Elkanah said the victims were abducted from the same LGA.

The CP added that the police operatives also arrested three suppliers of hard drugs, and that “sophisticated weapons” were recovered from bandits.

He said the items included one motorcycle, eight AK-47 rifles, one general-purpose machine gun (GPMG), one rocket launcher, and five magazines.

While giving an update on the activities of the police in the last four months, Elkanah said the command has recorded “tremendous successes in the ongoing war against banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other crimes in the state”.

According to him, the police operatives also recovered 69 cows from bandits within the last four months.

To ensure a crime-free yuletide, Elkana assured the people that the police would work in collaboration with other agencies to ensure adequate security in the state.
