The Nasarawa police command says its operatives have rescued an abducted lecturer of the Nasarawa State University.

Isaac Igbawua, a lecturer at the department of microbiology of the institution, was abducted on December 27.

Ramhan Nansel, spokesperson of the police in the state, said the command received information that some armed men invaded the lecturer’s residence at Old Barracks, Kokona LGA.

Nansel said the police also got intelligence which enabled operatives to track the kidnappers to a forest at Ogba village in Nasarawa Eggon.

He said the command initiated a manhunt for the abductors that climaxed in a gun battle on December 28.

“The police in collaboration with vigilante group mobilized to the scene,” the spokesperson said.

“On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums opened fire but were gallantly repelled.

“They took to flight, and the victim was rescued unhurt and reunited with his family after undergoing medical examination at Police Clinic, Lafia.”

In another operation on December 28, Nansel said operatives of the command’s anti-kidnapping unit arrested one Daniel Favour Chukwuebuka, a 200 Level student of the department of social works at the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA).

“A search warrant was executed at his residence where one locally fabricated Beretta pistol, four live ammunition, and Criminal Charms/Herbs were recovered,” he said.

Nansel did not say whether both cases were connected.

“The commissioner of police has commended the officers for a job well done and urged members of the public always to feed the police with adequate information to rid the state of criminals and assure them of utmost confidentiality,” he said.
