Police rescue kidnap victim in Kaduna — after six months in captivity

The Kaduna police command has rescued a kidnap victim in Kaduna after six months in the kidnappers’ den.

Speaking with NAN on Tuesday, Mansir Hassan, the command spokesperson, said the victim was rescued on Monday after the command’s anti-crime unit went after some suspected kidnappers around Zaria LGA of the state. 

Hassan said the victim is now receiving medical care. 

“On Monday at about 1600 hours, our anti-crime patrol mission on Madachi-Galadimawa area in Zaria Local Government Area, had an encounter with some people suspected to be kidnappers,” NAN quoted Hassan as saying.

“The operatives chased them and they took to their heels. As a result of that, we rescued a kidnapped victim in their den.

“He was rushed to the Muslim Specialist Hospital, Zaria for medical attention.”

The spokesperson added that during interrogation, it was discovered that the victim has been with the kidnappers for six months.

Hassan said the rescued victim told them that he was kidnapped while on his way to Kontagora in Niger state.

“Efforts are on top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects,” Hassan said. 

“Efforts to trace his relatives are also in progress. Further developments will be communicated.”
