Police rescue three kidnap victims in Kebbi

The Kebbi state police command says its operatives have rescued three kidnap victims in Shanga LGA.

A statement issued on Friday by Nafi’u Abubakar, spokesperson of the command, said the victims were rescued following a joint operation by security agencies.

Abubakar said on July 27, at about 2 am, gunmen armed with weapons invaded Sangara village in Shanga and abducted three residents.

He said the divisional police officer in Shanga mobilised a joint security team, including personnel of the police, army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), vigilantes, and hunters, to launch a rescue mission.

“While the operation was ongoing, they trailed the kidnappers to Shanga hills and engaged them in a fierce gun duel,” the statement reads.

“They kidnapped one Muhammad Namata, 25, Gide Namata, 20, and Hamidu Alhaji Namani, 35, all of the same address to unknown destination.

“Due to the firepower of the combined security team, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and fled into the forest with fatal wounds.

“The victims were successfully rescued on July 31 at about 3:30 pm, and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility before being reunited with their families.”

Abubakar quoted Bello Sani, commissioner of police in Kebbi, as commending the bravery and professionalism of the security operatives in the operation.

He said the commissioner urged security agencies to sustain their collaboration, adding that no single outfit can succeed alone.

“The CP reiterated the command’s readiness to safeguard the lives and property of residents in Kebbi,” Abubakar said.
