Police rescue three kidnapped victims in Abia, recover N2m ransom

The Abia state police command says its operatives have rescued three kidnapped victims and recovered N2 million ransom paid to the abductors.

In a statement on Monday, Maureen Chinaka, police spokesperson in Abia, said operatives also arrested some suspects connected with the crime.

Chinaka noted that the operation, carried out at about 5:30pm on Sunday, followed a report of a kidnapping incident at Afojide Market in Isuochi, Umunneochi LGA of the state.

She said the rescued victims are Onyedikachi Onyegesi, 42, from Akpou, Isuochi, Abia; Ifeanyi Nnabuife, 44; and Amarachi Nwaebubu, 26, both from Anambra state.

“In the course of the operation, a red Lexus 350 Jeep, two million naira cash (part of the ransom payment), three mobile phones, and two leg chains or shackles were recovered,” the statement reads.

“Some kidnappers connected with the heinous crime were apprehended and are currently undergoing interrogation.

“The commissioner of police, Abia command, CP Danladi Isa, reiterates the command’s unwavering commitment to making the entire Abia safe, secure, and free from crime and criminality.”
