Police say Shimite’s husband in protective custody after death of Delta governor’s aide

Bright Edafe, police spokesperson in Delta

The police command in Delta said it has placed the husband of the late Love Shimite, the special adviser on trade and export to Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of the state, in protective custody.

Speaking with TheCable on Monday, Bright Edafe, the police spokesperson in Delta, said the deceased’s husband was taken into protective custody after contacting the police over an alleged threat to his life.

Shimite died in the early hours of Monday.

Edafe said the deceased’s husband alleged that his wife’s family members might attack him over allegations that he is responsible for the death of Shimite.

The Delta police spokesperson said Shimite’s family had lodged an official complaint against the husband for allegedly being responsible for the death.

Edafe said an autopsy would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the death.

“First, we don’t have any report of any confrontation with the husband. It was the husband who called the police this morning to say that his wife fell ill and died,” Edafe said.

“He said he is getting threats from the family of his wife and feared that they might attack him over the incident.

“We took him into protective custody. The body of the deceased has been deposited in the mortuary awaiting autopsy.

“For now, we are treating the case as a natural death. Since the family of the deceased has lodged a complaint against the husband, then we are going to go for an autopsy.”
