The police have sealed off the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja.

On Sunday, armed police officers‎ cordoned off the lanes leading to the entrance of party’s secretariat at Wuse zone 5.

The officers sprawled around the premises of the secretariat.

The presence of the police at the PDP headquarters followed the‎ “confusion” at the party’s national convention in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

While Ali Modu Sheriff, who had moved to stop the convention, was sacked as the PD‎P national chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna state, was chosen as the interim chairman of the party.

‎Sheriff, who failed in his bid to stop the convention, maintained that he was still the chairman of the PDP, and he described resolutions at the convention as a nullity.

Meanwhile, a faction of the PDP, led by Jerry Gana, former minister of information, held a parallel convention in Abuja also on Saturday.

Consequently, the deployment of a detachment of police officers is to prevent a break down of order in the event of a clash between the rival factions.
